The purpose of this post is to provide a cursory cross-examination of research on hate speech detection, summarizing these methods’ respective efficacy and limitations in order to provide a frame for understanding our YouTube classification project.
This struggle to combat mis- and disinformation in global health was a focus of the 2020 Media Ecosystems Conference, hosted in March by the Media Ecosystems Analysis Group. The two-day conference, which was hosted once before in 2018, brought together various researchers, journalists, academics, and other stakeholders in the current media landscape.
There has been a massive rise in immigration coverage in American media between 2014-2018. Along with that rise, we have found a significant rise in denigrating speech — including terms like "illegal aliens" — across media, from the far right to the left.

The paper is titled “A Case Study in Computational Content Analysis: Comparisons of Sentiment Analysis Methods on News Media“.
